Values & Aims

Pursuing excellence with tradition

Ad optima petenda or “to strive for excellence” is our motto. We build on your child’s strengths but also support and help them when they stumble. Milbourne’s very special atmosphere of comradeship and team spirit creates lifelong bonds. Yes, we are traditional but also extremely forward looking.

We maintain all our unique traditions but also embrace the best of the new. It’s our role to develop the very best in every child. We do this by providing many opportunities for individual attention. We use all our resources and ensure that we make the very best out of every opportunity that our special Milbourne Lodge atmosphere generates.

I like that it harnesses traditional values whilst forward thinking in its approach to education.

– Parent, Milbourne Lodge

A curriculum that encourages growth

Our broad and balanced curriculum underpins our commitment to high expectations and recognises endeavour. Life at Milbourne Lodge is also filled with enjoyment and fun. Whatever subject or activity is being taught we ensure that we maximise the learning experience for the children. We are committed to our unique balance of physical and academic activities.

Sport is woven into the daily timetable. We believe it encourages both resilience and team spirit alongside overall health and well being of our children. We want each child to develop both stamina, self-confidence and self-belief. This is partly achieved through strong relationships built with their form tutors and mentors. At Milbourne Lodge size really does matter. We are a close-knit community that really does embrace diversity, self-expression and intellectual curiosity.

Our Values
Compassion

Our school is more than just a place of learning; it is a community where compassion flourishes. We inspire our students to demonstrate care and consideration for one another, creating a support network that enhances the overall well-being of each child, and instil in them the values of respect, compassion and tolerance every day.

Community

We have a strong family ethos and instil a sense of great pride in our school community. We look after, support and encourage each other to always be our best. Our school is a positive, safe and caring community in which all individuals are valued and respected, and enabled to develop their skills, talents and interests to the full; intellectually, physically and spiritually. We strive for the highest standards in pastoral care.

Courage

We encourage our pupils to face challenges head-on, to question, to explore, and to embrace the unknown with an open mind. We celebrate courage as a guiding principle, propelling our students towards a future where they can lead with confidence, compassion, and a fearless commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

Creativity

We encourage our students to dream big, to visualise the extraordinary, and to believe in the power of their own creative potential.

Our History

Milbourne Lodge was founded in 1912 by Harvey Wyatt, who established the School in Arbrook Lane, Esher. The School remains on its original site with the Prep school year groups occupying the original school building and the Reception classes taught in what was previously the Headmaster’s house.

Since its foundation, Milbourne has established a strong reputation as one of England’s leading Prep Schools recognised for outstanding academic achievements.

In 2007 Milbourne Lodge became part of the Cognita Schools group and in 2009 the School introduced a Year 3 intake and opened a thriving Pre-Prep for both boys and girls aligning itself with the modern Preparatory School year group structure.

Building on this success, September 2009 saw the opening of our thriving Pre-Prep which now incorporates Reception through to Year 2 and two form entry in all year groups. In September 2016 our new Changing Room block was completed. In January 2016, Mrs Judy Waite was appointed Head and a new building complex was officially opened comprising 6 new classrooms and a specially designed Science Laboratory.

Begin an unforgettable adventure.

Children who join Milbourne Lodge develop their confidence and gain a genuine love for learning, putting them on the path to success.
